Valdelacalzada has taken action to try to pay less for the electricity bill. Neighbors and companies have created a community of energy consumption to reduce energy costs. It is a cooperative that will install several photovoltaic plants in the town to reduce consumption.

“If you can’t save something on electricity, well, that’s good, because we pay a lot, and with the increase that has occurred, and that will continue to rise, the truth is that it’s a very good saving,” says Diego Becerra, a member of this energy community, which already has some 200 members, including several companies, such as a gas station and large fruit plants.

“With the increase that there has been, and that will continue to rise, this is a very good saving.”

Photovoltaic plants will be installed

The project, developed by the company Valsolar, will deploy several photovoltaic plants in the village of about 2,000 square meters each. “Here we are talking about zero kilometer energy, that is, energy is generated in the same place where it is consumed and therefore it has to be cheaper. Each neighbor will pay for the energy at the pure and simple cost of producing it,” says Valsolar’s CFO. 40 for an average bill of 120 euros, i.e. a third of the cost of the bill.

This saving will also benefit the local council, which is already in the process of joining the energy community. Its electricity bill will be reduced by about 25,000 euros per year. “In the end, who will benefit will be the citizens because the council will have much more margin for other policies and contribute to the improvement of social welfare”, acknowledges the mayor, Pedro Noriega.

The installation could be up and running by the summer of 2023. Among the places where the installation of these panels is planned is, for example, the parking lot of the municipal swimming pool.
